Since the worldwide outbreak of the coronavirus more than two years ago, our feet have been in a state of high-heel hibernation. But the days of nightclubs and social events appear to be on the rise again (cross fingers), and the days of the business-on-top/barefooted Zoom uniform can be put to rest. We miss our beloved platforms and pumps, but we’ve learned something valuable during our forced absence from them: what’s truly important in life.
Athleisure, matching sets, and any pants that aren’t stiff denim are all signs that comfort is more important now than ever. Although heels will continue to be popular, convenience has become more critical. The phrase “comfortable heels” may sound like an oxymoron. Remember to moisturize, take breaks, and do some stretching and exercise for your feet. Over-the-counter metatarsal pads provide much-needed comfort for the ball of your foot. Our column continues with advice on where to get the most comfortable, long-lasting heels.
Schutz Keefa Platform Sandal
The platform shoe is the best buddy for everyone who wants to look taller. Because of the thicker support throughout the forefoot and the chunkier heel, you can stand significantly taller for extended periods. However, even though your feet are only four or five inches above the ground, the progressive arch may be more pleasant. You can wear these ’70s iconic gold platforms all year long and look great. Put on some tights and wear them to a winter wedding, then take them off and wear them with a spring dress.
Suzanne Rae Mary Janes
Find a pair of shoes with a deep, wide toe box to prevent bunions and ingrown toenails from forming at the ball of the foot. These Mary Janes by Suzanne Rae with a square toe are terrific options, and the company is committed to sustainability.
Thursday Boots Heartbreaker
Having your foot and ankle wholly covered in boots can make you feel more at ease. These are constructed with soft Italian leather and a shock-absorbing insole to ensure comfort. They are equally at home with a skirt as they are with jeans. Sam Peters, a contributor to ELLE.com, claims she’s been wearing the same pair for years, and it shows no signs of wearing out.
Steve Madden Kimberly Loafer
The toe box of a pair of loafers is usually more extensive and rounded. These Jeffrey Campbell shoes look more dramatic than they are comfortable due to the platform. An individual reviewer stated, “They are not as tall as they appear in the picture, but I think they are the right height.” They are extraordinarily soft, and breaking them in is a breeze. You can wear the ’90s-inspired cut with all the wide-leg jeans and low-rise skirts you want.
Amina Muaddi Lupita Slide Sandal
The adage goes something like this: moderation is the key. That includes the pair of four-inch stilettos you’ve had your eye on. An expert asserts that women can wear heels if they practice proper self-care. For the time being, women must model what they’d like to wear. These elegant sandals by Amina Muaddi are a terrific choice because of their characteristic martini heel, which gives them the look of stilettos but the stability of a block heel. The natural leather lining helps them breathe better.
